Creating a great first impression from the road, as the setting is stunning at the foot of a sheer limestone mountain-face with endless rice paddies stretching out to the front, The Zwakabin is 5 minutes out of town. Far enough away to be a country hotel and not an urban option.
The reception area furthers the initial favourable impressions and this continues through to the spacious and spotlessly clean restaurant, accessed across a central water feature. It’s all good thus far.
Looking across to the accommodation block and stand-alone cottages, expectations are high. Its only when get inside the rooms that it underwhelms – not necessarily bad, but simply under-whelming which a shame considering how well they had done up to this point. When we last visited the plumbing was awful.
However, all told it’s a good hotel – without any doubt, the best hotel for miles around and the service, the food served in the restaurant and the pleasant lounge more than make up for the lacklustre guest rooms.
