The Golden Rock Hotel is just above Mt Hermit, the mid-station for the shared lorries up Kyaikhtiyo Mountain. Therefore a very steep hour by foot from The Rock itself and whilst its preferable to stay at the very top, rooms up there are limited and, beyond the Mountain Top Hotel, really very poor. The Golden Rock Hotel sits separate, uniquely settled in an idyllic setting amidst lush tropical vegetation and age-old rocks – an ideal spot for relaxation. The hotel has a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain ranges and spectacular sunsets.

The individual buildings are strategically placed amongst wooded areas and take full advantage of the different elevations to assure privacy for each room. The restaurant serves only very basic local food, but it’s just about okay. There really is nothing in the way of amenities – its merely a bed and your base from which to climb for sunset or, for the very keen, sunrise.
