This colonial residence, originally built in 1909 and faithfully restored to its original design ten years ago, is an absolute joy – one of those unexpected gems, sought but rarely found.
More a country residence with 10 ample rooms set around a welcoming central lobby and restaurant. Each room has an open fire place, airy neutral decor, comfy four-poster beds and views over Kalaw and the Shan Mountains. The restaurant also has wonderful views, but this time to the quintessentially ‘cottage’ garden and the forest beyond, and serves hearty Burmese and Western food sourced ingredients from the Amara’s own vegetable garden.
In our opinion the Amara is the most comfortable and distinctive property, the prefect base to explore the unique flora and fauna as well as the culture of Palaung, Danau and Pao tribal villages found in this delightful area.
