The ultimate way to take in the beauty of Burma – an overland journey following the banks of the Irrawaddy travelling by car, train and boat from Yangon to Mandalay. Learn about life in rural towns, villages and soak up the buzz of the cities as you head South to North, stopping along the way in Monywa, Bagan, Pyay and Magwe. For an a slice of luxury at the end of your tour, add on a trip to Ngapali Beach (though you will need to fly to get there!).
After leaving Yangon your first stop Pyay, became an important trading centre during the Bagan era. Today, it remains an important transit point for goods between northern and southern Burma. We recommend soaking up its lively atmosphere along the riverfront and enjoy chatting to the locals over a cold beer. From Pyay you will stop at Magwe, famous for its 1.8 mile bridge, before arriving in Bagan- one of the highlights of Burma with temples stretching across the horizon.
Your journey will end in Mandalay with the ancient capitals situated in near reach of the city and accessible by car and boat. Taking in one of the famous sunsets from the top of Mandalay Hill will be a fitting end to the trip unless you are tempted to add on a beach break on one of the beautiful southern beaches.
