Scattered around the diving countryside lie a number of sacred caves which we highly recommend taking the time to visit. Nearby to Hpa An is Sadan Cave, which opens into a gigantic cavern filled with Buddhas and pagodas and can be walked all the way through to the other side, under the mountain. It is truly impressive and to add to the atmopshere, thousands of bats cling to the cave roof! 10 kilometres to the south east of Hpa An you will find Kaw Ka Taung caves and pool ; the swimming area here provides an opportunity to wind down and cool off after a day of exploring but these caves are generally much more popular with locals than tourists. Located on the west side of the Thanlwin river are the Kawgun & Yathaypyan Caves which are very pictureque and covered in tiny buddhas and intricate carvings.
