Without doubt, the best hotel atop the mountain…which is, in fact, not saying much at all as the competition is woeful. Notwithstanding, this is a good little hotel very close to the Golden Rock itself – only a very short stroll for sunrise.

The deluxe rooms are basic, but of a decent size, en suite, with fans rather than a/c (you are on top of a mountain, no need), reasonably clean and most offer stupendous views.

There’s a lounge and restaurant – food was just about edible on our last visit – as well as a pleasant terrace where you can watch the hustle and bustle of pilgrims making their weary way.

It’s expensive or what you get. But then you remember where you are and all is forgiven.
